Specs:

  • Length: 12"
  • Tube inner diameter: 1-7/8"
  • Tube outer diameter: 2-1/4"
  • Tube wall thickness: 1.2 mm
  • Mounting flange dimensions: 5-1/8" long x 4-1/4" wide
  • Gimbal bar dimensions: 1/4" wide x 5/8" tall

This heavy-duty, swivel-bottom rod holder lets your rod turn to the left or right to follow a fish that's taken the bait. Its 12" length, strong stainless steel construction, and extra-large mounting flange can endure the strain of a hefty tuna or a speedy wahoo. The 30-degree angle of the holder positions your rod tip farther out from the boat. If you use a rod with a bent butt, this will likely result in your rod tip being nearly parallel with the surface of the water.

Swivel Gimbal Cup

This swivel gimbal cup is built into the CE Smith swivel bottom rod holder.

This rod holder has a precision-machined, cast swivel gimbal cup in the bottom that rotates a full 360 degrees in either direction, allowing your rod to turn in the direction that the line is pulled when you get a big bite. This reduces the risk of your line breaking and the fish getting away. It is also ideal for high-speed trolling when using a rod with a bent butt. And, thanks to this swivel holder's sturdy 1/4" wide x 5/8" tall gimbal bar, your rod won't spin independently of the swivel cup.

The swivel gimbal cup remains stationary until it is triggered by the adjustable, smooth-release clutch. The clutch will activate when a certain amount of pressure is placed on your fishing rod to turn. This occurs when a fish pulls your line with enough intensity to pull your rod in a different direction. The clutch releases smoothly so the swivel cup, and your rod, turn to follow the line without jerking. You can adjust the amount of pressure it takes to activate the clutch by tightening or loosening the threaded nut on the bottom of the rod holder.

Sturdy, Rustproof Stainless Steel Construction

This heavy-duty, 1.2-mm-thick rod holder is made with 316L stainless steel, which is highly resistant to corrosion and rust, even when exposed to saltwater. The exterior is polished to create a mirror-like shine that makes an attractive addition to any boat.

The 5-1/8" long x 4-1/4" wide flange is welded to the tube to create a strong connection, and it has a sleek, low-profile design that allows it to sit flush against the gunwale so it won't snag your line. For added strength, use a backing plate (CE53683A - sold separately) with this rod holder to reinforce the mounting area.

Drain Hole and Protective Vinyl Liner

CE Smith swivel bottom rod holder has a drain hole to keep water from pooling.

A small hole in the bottom of the holder lets water drain out instead of pooling inside. A protective, UV-resistant vinyl liner sits inside the holder to help keep your rod free of scratches and scuffs.

Installation requires that a 2-1/4" diameter hole be cut into your boat's gunwale to fit the holder. The holder will drop into this hole and then secure flush to your boat with (3) 1/4" bolts or screws (not included).

Video Transcript for Review of CE Smith Fishing Rod Holders - Rod Holders - CE53682SA

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this heavy-duty, stainless steel, 30 degree flush mount fishing rod holder with the swivel bottom. Now, this is a heavy-duty, flush mounted swivel bottom rod holder, it's designed to hold up to one 130 pound class fishing pole, so it's ideal for high speed trolling. This is a single-piece, precision machine swivel gimbal cup at the bottom here that allows your rod to turn in the holder to help reduce line breakage. And I did wanna pop up an insert to show you what that gimbal cup looks like. You can see it has the gimbal bar right in the middle there, gives you a 360 degree rotation in either direction.

And that gimbal bar that goes all the way across, it's designed to help keep your rod from spinning independently of the cup as it moves. Now, at the very bottom right here is a large nut here that you can tighten or loosen, it gives you adjustable resistant clutch that'll let you control the amount of pressure needed to turn that swivel gimbal cup I just showed you. It's smooth releasing, so it won't jerk your rod. Now, this holder is designed to mount into your boat's gunwale, it will require a 2 1/4 inch diameter hole to be cut into the gunwale for this to fit into. And if you look at the mounting flange at the top, there's three holes here, it is designed to use 1/4 inch bolts or screws to hold it into place.

Now, those bolts or screws are not included. We mentioned when you install this, it has a 30 degree angle to it, helps create a nice, wide trolling spread, it's the most common angle for fishing rod holders. Now, this is a heavy-duty 316L stainless steel construction, it's rustproof and corrosion resistant. If you noticed, the mounting flange has a nice polished mirror finish to it, so when this is completely installed, gives a nice good look to your boat. The flange itself is a wide, low-profile flange, and it is welded to the tube for durability.

Few measurements on this flange itself, the length, one end to the other is gonna be right 5 1/8 inches long, the width of it is 4 1/4 inches wide. Also, if you noticed at the very bottom, they do have a drain hole on this side. This drain hole will help keep water from pooling on the inside. And also, on the inside, they have this nice vinyl liner that'll protect your rod from any scratches or scuffs. Few specs on the height or the length of this, on the short side is right at about 10 inches, and on the higher, tall side is about 12 1/2 inches.

The inner tube diameter, it's gonna be right at 1 7/8 inches, and the outer tube diameter we already mentioned is 2 1/4 inches. But that should do it for the review on this heavy-duty, stainless steel, 30 degree flush mount fishing rod holder with the swivel bottom..
